Pandemic Initiatives

The AYAP is Canadian (based in Montreal) and was one of the first of its kind when it was founded 9 years ago. We provide top notch distance education for young violinists via web based platforms.  We’ve had a terrific year as our international family of violinists has nearly tripled in size! Here are some highlights:

As we mark the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 shutdown in Ontario, and our last in-person rehearsal, we are proud to release our newest commission: Lost in Translation.

This specific project was a collaborative effort between the Wood Buffalo Art Counsel and "All Imaginary" spoken band, for the Buffy's Fine Arts Awards 2020 in Wood Buffalo.

We invited non-urban youth from Grey-Bruce region and beyond to learn from upcoming and seasoned arts professionals in a series of weekly workshops and then to take their turn at creating a digital storytelling project!

Yellowhouse Art Centre had facilitated a Pottery workshop for families on Galiano Island via Zoom.

Pottery artist Laurie McCallum gave a three session workshop "Intro to hand building" She fired the participants works in her kiln and finalized the project with one on one glazing appointments.

January 2020 was a very serious flu season in Manitoba, and so I was already adjusting many of the
practices that I use in my school printing workshops, like more hand washing and less sharing of tools. I

"I recently led a virtual school arts project with my grade 5 class and in collaboration with the grade 6 class. Due to current pandemic restrictions, this art project was developed on a Google Slide to help guide instructions, with social distancing, and outdoor activities in mind.
