As a Kelowna artist, I am surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in Canada, so it is difficult to resist painting it.
Painting the British Columbian landscape is a challenge and a joy. It evokes a powerful and beautiful feeling. On my canvas, I want to convey how it feels to be here. This "here" could be anywhere of course. Nature is beautiful wherever you are. Painters have always known this. There is something of beauty if you stop to see and feel it. When we are in nature, we don't just see what is in front of us, we feel what we see. All of our senses are engaged; we hear; we smell; we absorb the energy of the land. In my paintings, I use color and composition to create not just a visual representation, but a visual trigger to evoke that feeling.
Color is especially important in my paintings. I work to achieve a vibration and communication between colors that evokes the "energy" of the subject. I work in either oil paints or acrylic paints.
