The ampersand is a stand-alone character whose purpose is to connect. It is a symbol for "and per se, and". Unlike most letters, its single-use carries a meaning all on its own; however, its purpose is lost without being used to bring things together. Such is the mission of Ampersand Collaborations. To bring together elements that are better for their union, and to capture narrative and imagery, and share those moments in a manner that renders the evocative rigorous.
The organization provides curatorial services and program development that is generalizable across many sectors. Arts+culture programming, artist management and collaborations, advanced degrees in qualitative and quantitative research with expertise, board and committee governance, workshop and program development and execution, festival and event management, operations supervision... the list goes on.
The organization is interdisciplinary, which in and of itself is metaphorically represented by the ampersand: how considering a complex issue from more than one disciplinary perspective can allow for a more comprehensive whole to emerge.
The guiding principles of the organization are also about harnessing the 'stronger together' concept: engaging artistic and cultural practice to gain a better understanding of lived experience, and engaging academic research methods to analyze these practices.
