Dominique Rey

Dominique Rey is a multidisciplinary artist based in Winnipeg, Canada whose practice includes video, performance, painting, collage, sculpture, and photography. Using immersive methodologies, Rey’s assemblages, installations and sculptures distil her experiences of working with specific, culturally marginalized subjects and figures. These include groups as disparate as strippers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (Selling Venus/Vénus au miroir), and a disappearing order of Nuns (Les Filles de la Croix), to performance-based projects where she dives inward to explore the unconscious “other” within. Her recent work focuses on practices of recontextualization and translation, one form this takes is in the creation of photo-based collages using her personal archives that she then re-interprets into large-scale sculptures.
