Helen Stuart

My specialty areas of teaching include Piano, Voice, Theory Rudiments and Harmony. My formal music education includes receiving a BMUS of degree with distinction from the University of Alberta (piano performance major). As well I have several graduate level courses and conducting classes.

I love teaching! Through the years I have had several students stay with me through their entire student careers. In context of my 40 year teaching career, my students have been awarded well over 50 provincial medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada for receiving the highest marks in the province for their exams. As well, my voice and piano students have often been finalists and winners in the Alberta Provincial Music Festival, and they have won many scholarships and awards from their local music festivals such as the Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival. As a teacher I have been the recipient of the Tom and Miggsie Lawson National Teachers' Travel and Study Scholarship from Conservatory Canada.

Aside from teaching, I am a professional accompanist specializing in playing piano for singers and choirs including Greenwood Singers, and Ariose Women's Choir. I am a conductor of a St. David's Children's Choir which offers free tuition to members, and I have been an adjudicator for the Contemporary Showcase Festival in Edmonton.

I love having a varied studio, with different ages and levels of students. For voice students, I love working with children in particular - knowing that they will carry the foundations they learn into their future singing opportunities.

As a teacher, I engender in my students a love for the art of music. I will provide opportunities for them to share their music with others in performance, and I will provide a guided program towards achieving success in exams and competition if that is a chosen path for students.
