Canadian Lyric Tenor, Douglas Rice, received his education and training from several prestigious institutions including England’s Britten-Pears School, Boston’s New England Conservatory, Canada’s Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as private studies with teachers in Hamburg, Cologne & Paris. Known for his role portrayals from Handel and Mozart operas, Douglas’ versatility encompasses a vast array of operatic literature. His beautiful voice and cultured and stylistic singing embodies tenor singing of the highest order. Furthermore, his interpretive finesse in oratorio and concert repertoire embodies works by Bach to Beethoven and beyond. Mozart roles such as Tamino and Belmonte delineate his vocal flexibility and ease that he is praised for by press and public alike. He has performed for HRM Queen Elizabeth and other dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Norway. He completed his studies in Canada, USA and Europe with renowned teachers Ingrid Kremling, Christoph Pregardien, Edward Zambara, Diane Forlano, Victor Martens, Dr. Richard Miller, and Master classes with Peter Schreier & Corinne Laporte. He also acquired extensive performance practice of Baroque repertoire through his interpretive studies with Julianne Baird. He has been heard on Radio France, Germany, Israel and Canada. He has made extensive concert appearances with conductors including Sir Roger Norrington, Christoph Spering, Rolf Beck, Vincent La Selva, Peter Oundjian and Krzysztof Penderecki.
