The Winnipeg Arts Council recognizes that professional development is key for artists in the community to thrive and over the years WAC has supported hundreds of Winnipeg artists and arts administrators for activities that develop their skillsets. Professional mentorships, formal training/courses, and artist residencies have long been eligible for support through the Professional Development grant and the program has helped offset artists’ costs for a wide variety of activities.

The Winnipeg Arts Council recognizes the individual artist as the primary source of creative activity in all artistic disciplines. The Individual Artist Grant Program is intended to support the creation of new work in any art form, or the development, production, curation, or exhibition of works of art by Winnipeg artists.

Purpose

The program supports professional theatrical exploration, creation, development, production and presentation, regardless of theatrical tradition, as well as initiatives that benefit the Ontario professional theatre community. The program has five categories:
