The European Forum on Music 2017 in Pafos is only six weeks away! Make sure you don’t miss this important opportunity for knowledge building, networking and exchange and register now through the EMC website.
This year’s edition of the European Forum on Music and the IAMIC Annual Conference will be dedicated to Music and Cultural Diplomacy: Linking Continents – Bridging Cultures and take place from Friday, 9 June until Sunday, 11 June. Annexed to the European Forum on Music three other meetings will take place: the EMC Annual Meeting on Friday, 9 June in the morning, as well as the IMC General Assembly and the IAMIC General Assembly on Sunday, 11 June, afternoon and Monday, 12 June morning.
The European Forum on Music will be organised jointly by IAMIC, the International Association of Music Information Centres and the EMC and is hosted by Pafos2017, European Capital of Culture in Cyprus. The geopolitical location of this year’s Forum is suited perfectly to address this issue and we heartily invite you to join this endeavour.
In June 2016, the EU adopted a 'Strategy for international cultural relations' aiming at “encouraging cultural cooperation between the EU and its partner countries and promoting a global order based on peace, the rule of law, freedom of expression, mutual understanding and respect for fundamental values.”
We have invited Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to deliver a keynote.
Therefore, with this edition of the European Forum on Music, we would like to look at how civil society initiatives engage in this field of “music and cultural diplomacy” and how music can build bridges and be a tool for peace and social cohesion.
At the European Forum on Music you will be able to meet key actors, get to know relevant case studies and participate in open discussions. We welcome your suggestions already now: What do you think is at the “heart of music and cultural diplomacy”? What are the issues that you would like to discuss?
You will have the chance to connect with outstanding personalities from the music sector, like Ramy Essam, one of the IMC Five Music Rights Champions, who will attend the European Forum on Music to hand over the Music Rights Award.
Legendary pianists Vladimir and Vovka Ashkenazy will perform in Pafos on Saturday, June 10. Delegates/Participants of the European Forum on Music who don't want to miss this opportunity, can attend the concert for a reduced ticket price (15 Euro). Please indicate your interest under "Additional Comments" in the registration form.
Please do not hesitate to contact the EMC office in Bonn for any further questions. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Pafos.
