Led by professional playwright, Diane Flacks, this program invites young writers to develop creative playwriting techniques to express their original ideas. Working collaboratively and on their own, participants will experiment with different writing exercises, styles and genres in order to bring a script from page to stage.
Participants will also be paired with a mentor who is part of the Stratford Festival Playwrights Retreat, an annual retreat for professional playwrights offered through the Foerster Bernstein New Play Development Program at the Stratford Festival.
The program culminates in a virtual reading of participants' original work by members of the Stratford Festival acting company.
Space is limited. To be considered to participate in the 2021 Young Writers Retreat, please complete the application form (see below) and email it to educate@stratfordfestival.ca by August 16, 2021.
