This is Mine
“I grew up through the boom time of the 1950s. After long years of the deprivation of first a global depression and then world war, prosperity and stability defined paradise. Material acquisition meant life was good, finally! Or, so we all thought. These images explore my experience of that time as a child. And yes, through the murky lens of memory and a life lived for decades beyond. Images shift, collide and morph. As a kid, I would keep myself out of trouble by drawing for hours. I would tell myself these fantastic stories while drawing all the action. Things would blow up! There would be monsters and aliens; all kinds of excitement. Hmmm…some sixty years later not much has changed. I am still using drawing to tell stories. I invite you to step in, explore, and tell yourself your own story. Have fun!”
David McClyment: has been exhibiting professionally for forty years in the GTA, throughout Ontario and across Europe. His work has been the focus of many grants from all levels of government, including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council. McClyment has shown his work through exhibitions with commercial co-operatives, public galleries, artist-run centres and commercial galleries, as well as organizing his own initiatives. His exhibitions have been regularly reviewed in many major media outlets, including The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Daily Star, and the Winnipeg Free Press. In addition to his creative practice, McClyment has had a parallel career as an arts educator and mentor. He is currently a professor in the Fine Arts Studio Program at Centennial College, where he has won a number of awards for excellence in teaching. He is inspired daily by his long time reason for living, Sue Bracken, and their eminently talented son, Jaimie.
