Rosebud School of the Arts

Years after the Blackfoot people named this valley Akokiniskway – the river of many roses – it became a trading post on the rail line between Drumheller and Calgary. The Mercantile, the grain elevators, the blacksmiths, the hotel, the post office, and many other buildings still testify to the once thriving hamlet of Rosebud.
After a couple of decades of decline, LaVerne Erickson and his brother Tim, founded Rosebud Camp of the Arts for teens in need of hope in 1973. This quickly became Rosebud School of the Arts – an arts high school – which in 1982 decided to put on plays and serve dinner to raise money. The high school evolved into a post-secondary institution with the passing of the Rosebud School of the Arts Act in 1988.
Today Rosebud is not only known for our professional theatre training program, but also our Rosebud Mercantile Restaurant, and the professional Rosebud Theatre serving more than 30,000 patrons each year. Graduates of Rosebud are distinctive in the Canadian theatre scene as being self-possessed, great team builders, courageous, and hard working.

Our mission is to enrich lives through God's gifts of creativity, hope, joy, forgiveness, and love through the arts. Our mandates include inspiring students to become catalysts for transformation in our world, presenting live programming through an inclusive, grace-filled perspective, and providing generous hospitality to our patrons.
