Violin Teacher
B.Mus. in Performance, McGill University
Maya began her violin studies at age 3 in Winnipeg,
and developed as a musician under the guidance of
Donna Grescoe and the summer Gifted Youth
Programs at the Banff Centre. She went on to receive
her Bachelor of Music in Performance from McGill
University studying with Mauricio Fuks.
A working musician for over 25 years, Maya has been
a member of various ensembles including the Kyoto
Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada
Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and
currently, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
With 15 years of teaching experience behind her, Maya enjoys working with
students of all ages, young and adult students alike, while considering each
individual students' needs, learning styles and goals. Maya has taken pedagogy
sessions with renowned Indiana University professor Mimi Zweig and uses her
simple and non-judgmental approach to teaching the violin and believes in an
openly engaged and supportive approach to teaching. Maya is able to teach an
extensive range of repertoire, from beginner to advanced.
Maya is an advocate of musical outreach education, and continues
teaching group fiddle classes in various elementary schools where she has
had experience working with E.S.L., extremely shy and learning disabled
students.
