This week-long Art Smarts project involved students from Grades 1, 2, 3 from École James Nisbet. I harvested birch trees and 1/4" circles were cut to represent 'beads' for the pattern which was inspired by a Métis floral pattern I designed according to the space provided. The students learned about the birch tree and its uses as well as medicinal properties including chaga. Created with over 300 'beads' this collaborative tableau was mounted on the wall in their library, which celebrates community, harmony and school spirit.
