Vox Popular Media Arts is celebrating its 17th annual festival in Thunder Bay, Ontario. What started as a film festival quickly grew to include all facets of art in Northwestern Ontario. Adapting to a virtual festival for a second year, we are presenting local and international films, a concert series, and a virtual gallery; in addition, to introductions, interviews, and panel discussions with the artists, musicians, and filmmakers to further the dialogue and create networking opportunities amongst artists.
The annual festival and year-round programming connect professional independent artists and filmmakers with local artists and audiences of all ages and interests.
Since 2005, Vox Popular has screened over 778 independent films, showcased more than two-dozen media arts installations, conducted five 360-VR workshops, six 360/projection-mapping installations, hosted 175 visiting filmmakers from Canada and around the world, dozens of Q&A’s, and 27 highly successful Master Class workshops. Every year we have teamed up with different performance artists and musicians to offer more than just a film screening. Last year we created and presented a concert series which brought local media artists, musicians, and visual artists together for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
