The Celtic Fiddlers (1993) based out of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, are a vibrant group of 7 young professional musicians, ages 20-26. This unique group consists of fiddles, piano, mandolin, tin whistle, bodhran, cajone, accordion, banjo, bouzouki, bass, voice, guitar and drums. They have gained an outstanding reputation for their eclectic style and presentation. This year marks their 30th anniversary.

Under the direction of Korona Brophy, musician, arranger and teacher, the Celtic Fiddlers, perform at a wide milieu of international, national and provincial conventions and festivals, local folk festivals and events, celebrations and weddings.

In February, 2019, they released their sixth CD, an EP, entitled, “Ready for the Storm”.

The Fiddlers have travelled to Ireland on five tours –1999, 2003, 2008, 2012 and 2016 to share their culture through their CD’s, “Passage” – a compilation CD of song, story and music of the Irish migration to Newfoundland; “The Sea in Our Eyes”- an instrumental collection of Newfoundland ballads, jigs and original works; and ‘the Celtic Fiddlers …a time for Christmas’ - a beautiful collection of Christmas vocals and instrumental music. Their fourth CD, “Salt of the Earth”, was released in November, 2009.  The fifth cd “Times and Tides” was released in June, 2013. This 20 track cd celebrates our 20th anniversary and contains original and traditional vocal and instrumental pieces.

The Celtic Fiddlers toured New York in 2014 through invitations from the Canadian Consulate, Ellis Island, Irish Christian Brothers, and CanadaNYC as part of the Canada Day festivities. These were fantastic performances and well received by audiences from all over the world.

The Celtic Fiddlers have taken part in countless festivals around Newfoundland including Mount Pearl, Paradise, St. John’s, Portugal Cove, Brigus, Ferryland, Cupids, Twillingate, Fogo, Bonavista, Gros Morne, Lumsden, Holyrood, Goulds, Bay Bulls, Trinity, English Harbour, Cavendish, Tilting, and Cow Head. They have a long list of venues, including performances at seniors homes in every town and city they have visited; assemblies; tour company events; benefits, etc.

This summer, 2023, the group will be travelling across Newfoundland and Labrador to perform at various venues and festivals. The Celtic Fiddlers are returning to Ireland for their sixth invitational tour in August, 2023.

The Celtic Fiddlers were awarded the Instrumental Artist of the Year for MUSICNL in 2006, and nominated for the Celtic Album of the Year with MusicNL 2019.

 

 

The Celtic Fiddlers & Co. is a not-for-profit organization who relies on grants and CD production/sales as well as honoraria from performances to assist in travel and further CD production.
