A rare Toronto performance by The Elora Singers of this moving oratorio by Craig Hella Johnson; both an account of and reflection on the hatred that ended Matthew Shepard’s life.

This powerful work offers hope of acceptance and inclusion in a changing world in a concert reflecting on the themes of love and compassion. The three-part fusion oratorio speaks with a fresh and bold voice, incorporating a variety of musical styles seamlessly woven into a unified whole.

The Celtic Fiddlers (1993) based out of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, are a vibrant group of 7 young professional musicians, ages 20-26. This unique group consists of fiddles, piano, mandolin, tin whistle, bodhran, cajone, accordion, banjo, bouzouki, bass, voice, guitar and drums. They have gained an outstanding reputation for their eclectic style and presentation. This year marks their 30th anniversary.

Music Monday

Music Monday is a celebration of the impact of music education in our schools and in our communities.   On Monday May 1st, we will join together to celebrate music education by singing our Song of Celebration together at 12:30 pm ET.  Registration is free and will give you access to all the resources you need to teach the song to your class or learn at home.  There are numerous audio recordings, arrangements, lyric sheets, sing-a-long videos and a Learning Guide.

A Choral Vigil for Peace

This collaboration with Toronto’s Amadeus Choir will present a world premiere by Métis/French-Canadian composer Ian Cusson and the Canadian premiere of Shavon Lloyd’s Alleluia.  The program features excerpts from Rachmaninov’s transcendent All-Night Vigil (commemorating the composer’s 150th birthday on April 1, 2023), as well as works by Ukrainian-Canadian composer Larysa Kuzmenko, Latvian composer Uģis Prauliņš, and Canadian composers Kathleen Allan and Jon Washburn.

This concert will feature Emerging Canadian Voices - The Amadeus Choir’s in-house octet of emerging professional choral singers led by Associate Conductor Nila Rajagopal. We are also delighted to spotlight our guest artist Cuban Trumpeter Alexis Baro.

There will be no intermission for this afternoon matinée.
