In the Arctic North, Sea Ice is synonymous with the sand in the desert. The ice is vital for transportation, for food, for living. And while the temperatures seem inhumane, the Arctic is teeming with life. Indigenous tribes call this frosty land home, but they’re not alone. Polar bears, musk ox, whales, and caribou are some of the arctic animals co-existing with more than 40 different ethnic groups in the north.

As anyone who has spent any time beside the St. Lawrence Seaway knows, this river is anything but peaceful and quiet; it is frequently very noisy, especially at daybreak when birds start to sing. Guided by Louise Campbell, participants will discover her sound installation Sources, an outdoor installation of music inspired by the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River, featuring works inspired by the birdlife of Georgian Bay to the vast open spaces of the Magdalen Islands.
The Music students of Sir John Franklin High School proudly present Red, White and Blues - a salute to the musical pioneers of the 20th century. A moving oratorio by Craig Hella Johnson; both an account of and reflection on the hatred that ended Matthew Shepard’s life.
This powerful work offers hope of acceptance and inclusion in a changing world in a concert reflecting on the themes of love and compassion. The three-part fusion oratorio speaks with a fresh and bold voice, incorporating a variety of musical styles seamlessly woven into a unified whole.
