Esprit Orchestra Presents: I Hit My Head and Everything Changed

Esprit’s opening concert, I Hit My Head and Everything Changed, an impactful evening of music, will leave the audience “seeing stars”. Taking place on Sunday October 6, 2019 in Koerner Hall, the concert begins with a blast of orchestral sound in Thomas Adès’ Overture to “The Tempest”. The World Premiere of the title piece by Brian Harman, I Hit My Head and Everything Changed, is an artistic collaboration between Harman and artist Moira Ness.

Raising Her Voice

A ground-breaking celebration of Canadian artistry, featuring an array of choral works by female composers, and the premiere of four commissioned Canadian works by Christine Donkin, Anika-France Forget, Katerina Gimon, and Tawnie Olson. Orpheus partners with Diaspora Dialogues in a unique mentoring of acclaimed female composers and poets with emerging female artists to highlight the very best of established and undiscovered Canadian talent. This evening honours the woman’s expressive and singular perspective in song!

The When Brothers Speak Spoken Word Concert

When Brothers Speak is Canada's largest and longest running showcase of Black, male, Spoken Word artists. Now in its 20th year, When Brothers Speak features artists from across North America, sharing their take on the Black experience. Curated by Dwayne Morgan, the 2018 edition of When Brothers Speak will feature performances from Eddie Lartey (Hamilton), Joel Francois (New York City), Luke Reece (Toronto), Andrew Tyree (Los Angeles), and Rudy Francisco (San Diego). Dwayne Morgan: DMXXV

DMXXV, celebrates Spoken Word artist, Dwayne Morgan's quarter century on stage. The author of ten poetry collections and eight albums, Morgan has performed in eighteen countries internationally, and was inducted to the Scarborough Walk of Fame for his commitment to the arts in 2013.

On October 14th, Morgan will hit the Lula Lounge stage, sharing poems that span the first twenty-five years of his career.
